hey love,

The secret to having a great week
Having the right mindset towards the start of a new week can be quite a challenge, due to the feeling of stress and anxiety that it often times brings. These thoughts of stress and anxiety affect how we view the incoming week and without even knowing it, we project these negative feelings towards the new week, tainting it with an aura of bad vibe. The usual, end result of this, is that we are left feeling tired and overwhelmed at the very start of the week.
In this week’s newsletter, I would be sharing with you my secret towards having the right mindset for the new week, and how this secret was put to good use these previous week and the effect it had on my week.
At the start of these previous week I was a bundle of nerves. I had a million things I had to get done in the week and the sheer thought of how those things were going to get done made me feel overwhelmed. I started thinking of how tired and exhausted I was going to be and I started to pray for the end of the week to come quickly right before it even started. Funny right, I know I’m not the only one that has been there, but anyway something happened that made my week better.
As I was going on and on to my friend about how stressed I am and how stressful the week was going to be, something occurred to me. I was complaining about something that hadn’t happened, I was “borrowing tomorrows trouble, when I was in today.” that thought literarily stopped me in my tracks and made me realize that I was anxious over something that I wasn’t even sure was going to be bad.
What this made me realize was that I was already having a negative mindset towards a week that had the possibility of being amazing. what this then meant was that, when positive things happened in the week, I wouldn’t be able to appreciate or enjoy them because I already brought in negative energy to the week. This experience taught me that the secret towards having a great week, is to come into the week with the mindset that it is going to be a great week.
Its like meeting someone for the first time and already having a bad impression about them, even if they turned out to be amazing you wouldn’t see it because of your existing bias. So its the same way with the week, if you already come into the new week with the notion that its going to be a bad week, best believe that you are not going to enjoy the week, all you are going to be seeing through out the week are all the things that went wrong, nothing positive. So the secret towards having a great week is positive thinking.
Positive thinking is having an optimistic attitude towards any given situation. It is the practice of focusing on the good in any situation, it doesn’t mean you ignore the reality of things or make light of the problems, it simply means that you approach every situation whether good or bad with a positive outlook that things will go well.
Its hard to have a positive outlook toward the new week when you feel overwhelmed and stressed, but here are a few tips that I put to use this previous week that empowered me with the positive vibe to start the week.
The first tip towards having a positive mindset for the new week is to prepare for Monday. This might seem dumb, but I promise you it works. Try as much as possible to do the little things that will help you feel less stressed on Monday. This could be planning out the outfit you are going to wear on Monday, it could also be getting ahead on that email, it could even be creating a To-do list of all the stuff you have to do on Monday and crossing out some of the things that could be done on Sunday evening off the list. When this is done you will wake on Monday morning feeling less stressed about the day and that will make you feel more positive towards the week.
My second tip is take things slowly. Most times at the start of a new week we feel overwhelmed at the amount of things we have to get done that week, what if we took things slowly rather than looking at all the things we have to get done in the week, what if you broke it down to smaller tasks that you have to do each day, that way it becomes less overwhelming and you feel less pressured.
The third tip is to give yourself something to look forward to in the week. This could be completing a task, It could be looking forward to watching a movie you have wanted to watch, it could also be looking forward to listening to your favorite podcast. it could also be the day you get to sleep in. it could be your Friday night self-care routine. Just try to look for something you can’t wait to do in the week.
The fourth tip is to make time for breaks, avoid working overtime. Don’t over work yourself. setting and sticking to deadlines can be tough, but setting healthy work boundaries is necessary. Don’t work so late into the night when you know you would still have to be up early in the morning. you are only going to feel grumpy and tired the next day.
The fifth and last tip is that each day reflect on all the positive things that happened that day. Rather than complain about all the things that didn’t go right, dwell on all the the positive things that happened in the day and appreciate it.
After putting all of these tips in to practice, at the end of the week, you will realize that you had a great week. That was what happened to me, so I hope you put these tips to good use.
